What to Expect on a Sunday Morning
Who We Are
We are a diverse group of people from a variety of different ages and backgrounds. Dress is casual. People are friendly, so come early and stay late to get to know someone new or catch up with old friends.
We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important news in all of history, and it is our aim to have this message at the center of all that we do.
Sermons
Preaching at Calvary Church is primarily expositional (also called expository), meaning that it seeks to declare and apply the main point of a particular biblical passage. Sermons are usually 45 minutes long. You can listen to examples of our sermons on our Sermons page.
The worship service
We begin at 10:15 AM.
During this time, we sing songs, offer prayers of praise and confession to God, hear Scripture read and taught, read Scripture together or responsively, and share the Lord's Supper together.
CHILDren in worship
We provide an optional nursery for children ages zero through three years old which begins just prior to the sermon. That said, children are welcome to remain in the main service and are encouraged to do so. The nursery is located in the back of the sanctuary and is available for parents who need to step out with their children during the service.
MUSIC
The songs we sing at Calvary Church are a blend of old and new. We love the doctrinally rich hymns of the past, as well as the substantive songs of the present. Overall, we strive for a consistent philosophy in worship rather than a particular style. Our format is fairly simple, and we aim to make the most of the resources that God has provided us. We strongly prefer congregational singing and we encourage you to come and participate in worship with us.
After the service
A typical service is finished by 11:45 a.m. However, it is not unusual to find people still hanging around and talking for some time afterward. So, stick around after the service and talk, pray, or get to know someone new. Coffee and tea are provided.
